Layout and Whitebox of Cave Area
Our project is about a young child's experience at a summer camp, so I thought of landmarks related to summer camp activities, from picnic areas to cafeteria and other natural landscape for exploring. Through iterations, I added more natural terrain such as cliffs rather than a poisonous lake. And since our vision for the game is a horror game experience, the idea of a supernatural snail should have a location where it originated from, so I considered a ritual section.
Continuing with the idea, I added a shrine on the top of the mountain to make the mountain more interesting and provide a landmark for the player to explore. I also combined campground ideas from the previous two iterations.
Our team began with the idea of having a large mountain in the center of the map as the most noticeable landmark and the concept of a cursed snail haunting the camp. I didn't intend to design a specific section of the map, our team worked on brainstorming together, then pulling ideas we thought were unique from each of our designs to put together the final map. The ravine is meant to an extra obstacle that prevents the player from smoothly moving to the exit, and because the map is a square, the ravine is moved to a corner to save space.
One of us is working on the terrain section/areas that require terrain manipulation (mountains, lake, ravine) so I will be building another part of the level, specifically the cave, cliffs, and the picnic area.
