Sound/Narrative Design Plan
Story Overview: The player play as Timmy and mom just dropped you off at summer camp. You’ve been having a great time so far, you grew very tired and fell asleep early the first night. You wake up after getting a chill in the middle of the night and everyone is missing. You must search around for clues as to what or who happened to your friends.
Narrative Plan: Narrative will be scattered throughout the map in the form of diary entries/notes/scribbles from different POVs of your friends that have gone missing. Each landmark (cafeteria, picnic, cave, cabins) will have a specific event/activity that occurred there and ended in the disappearance of one of your friends. All clues point towards the mountain at the center of the map involving a certain cursed shrine and a strange snail. There was an escape attempt by other kids, a plan to repair the car found at the entrance, but they were caught before they could escape so the player needs to complete this plan in order to escape. The diary entries/notes will also give the player clues on where they hid the vehicle parts.
Inspiration: The Lich snail from Adventure Time
Sound references: Most of the horror games I've experienced contain relatively minimal music with the focus mainly on sound effects from player interactions and objects in the scene. My inspiration for the sound I want to add in this game is drawn from LIMBO. Though not exactly a horror game, I enjoy the eerie sensation brought by the game from the subtle sound effect of heartbeats during tense scenes and the use of environmental sounds for flowing water, flies, and other swamp creatures that give life to a visually monochrome world.
